Police are reportedly laying siege on Kano Emir's palace in order to prevent its looting.
Kano Police Commissioner Aderele Shinaba made this known in an exclusive interview with Premium Times on Thursday. He denied the allegations that the state governor's allegations that President Goodluck Jonathan was using police to prevent the new Emir Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from entering the palace.
Shinaba was quoted saying:
"We are not stopping anyone from accessing the palace. The Emir or anyone else can move in and out of the palace unmolested... But a situation where people would be creating problems, protesting and threatening the peace is unacceptable. We cannot fold our arms and allow miscreants to loot the palace."
He also denied allegations that police had been instructed to stop Sanusi from entering palace or arrest him, wondering who they could receive instruction from.
"Go and ask the presidency or the police headquarters to determine if they gave me any instruction to block the Emir from his palace or molest him. My own interest is that of security which I'm doing and will continue to do."
It would be recalled that controversies keep tracking the appointment of Sanusi as new Emir of Kano. The state governor blasted presidency over causing and supporting riots.
The recent report went even further saying that presidency plots to remove Sanusi and Kwankwaso through introducing the state of emergency, when the unrest reaches its peak.
