Sudanese Woman Sentenced To death For Marrying A Christian Arrested Again

Meriam Ibrahim, the Sudanese woman who was to be hanged to death for apostasy only to be freed on Monday, has been re--arrested.

Meriam Ibrahim, along with her husband, Daniel Wani, and two sons, were re-arrested on Tuesday at the Khartoum Airport, where they were scheduled to travel to the U.S.

They were surrounded by security officers at the airport numbering about 40, witnesses say have told SaharaReporters.

The 27-year-old, who was sentenced to death for marrying a Christian, was also sentenced and set to receive 100 lashes of the cane, while her marriage was pronounced dissolved.

The conviction in May sparked a global outrage, forcing an appeals court to order her release, and cancel the previous court ruling.

Meriam Ibrahim was pregnant at the time her death sentence was delivered, and was subjected to harsh treatment while in custody. For example, she was put to bed in prison with her legs chained, following her insistence never to renounce her Christian faith within a four-day ultimatum she received.

Her lawyer, Elshareef Ali, had described the reversal of her death sentence and her release from prison as "victory for religion."

The Sudanese government officials have so far not commented on her re-arrest, nor have they offered the media and public what she has been charged with.
