Police to embark on mass recruitment

THE Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force , Muhammed Abubakar, on Monday, disclosed that the Force had acquired explosive detective devices, in its effort to fight insecurity in the country. This came as he described the present state of insecurity in the country as war-like and urged Nigerians to mobilise and fight against it. The IGP, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of police (DIG) Investigation, Mr Peter Gana, disclosed this during a security stakeholders’ meeting at the Police Officers’ Mess, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State. “We are in a war situation and we need to mobilise. We want to urge all of you to be more security conscious,” said Gana, while speaking with the participants. The police boss also stated that the force was acquiring modern equipment to fight insecurity, with the acquisition of explosive detective devices. Gana also announced that the Force would embark on a mass recruitment exercise to add to the insufficient workforce of the Nigeria Police. He called on transporters in the country to be more security conscious, by providing CCTV cameras at motor parks in the country. The DIG stated that the security challenges in the country demanded cooperation from everybody and advised that all hands must be on the deck. Some of the participants at the meeting expressed the need for the protection of the identity of informants and urged that more attention should be focused on the influx of illegal arms and ammunition in the country.
