EXPOSED: Another Sambisa Forest In The Making In Taraba
Senator Emmanuel Bwacha representing Taraba south yesterday told the Senate that suspicious helicopters were seen air-dropping insurgents in thick forest around the Wukari local government area in southern Taraba State.
The senator recalled that in in December last year, they had been informed by Senator Alkali Jajere from Yobe state of helicopters suspected to to be supplying food and weapons to insurgents in the dreaded Sambisa forest in Borno state.
"I want to say that our attention has been drawn to a suspicious movements and activities around Dakar in Taraba state and it is believed also that a helicopter is dropping materials and personnel around there and we fear that this may be another Sambisa that is in the making in Taraba state," Bwacha said.
He therefore requested for the establishment of a military barrack around the flashpoint in Wukari to safeguard lives and property.
Senate President David Mark however promised to take up the matter with the authorities.
This is not the first time that the senate would get report of helicopters dropping food items and ammunition to the insurgents in the troubled regions of the nation.
On March 20, Senator Abu Ibrahim from Katsina had revealed during a debate at the senate that attackers of some of the affected places were not local people but were air-droppedfrom somewhere else along with their supplies, adding that the local people claim seeing helicopters landing in thick forests and dropping off supplies for the bandits.
Taraba has come under attack in recent times as scores of people have been killed and many others displaced due to violence in Wukari and its environs in the last three months.
Recall that last month, a group of terrorists operating under the guise of herdsmenfrom a camp on the outskirts of Wukari which is located in Taraba State were arrested by the Nigerian military in Taraba and they confessed to being a part of the Islamist group, Boko Haram.
