A group of Boko Haram fighters that captured up to 10 Chinese workers, killed one Cameroonian soldier during a raid on Waza, a Cameroonian town located 20 km from the Nigerian border, has most likely returned to the sect's stronghold, Sambisa Forest.
This has been revealed by a police official, who talked to AFP reporter on conditions of anonymity on May 18, 2014, Sunday.
He further added that the search for the missing foreign nationals continued on the territory of Cameroon, however, absence of any traces and fresh news for the second day in a row indicate that the kidnappers have left the country.
Several helicopters, which are getting ready for the military parade in the capital city, Yaounde, on May 20, 2014, were also seen in the air at the border area, assisting the search operation.
A group of Islamist insurgents arrived to a Chinese encampment in Northern Cameroon in five vehicles on May 16, 2014, Friday. The heavily armed attackers engaged Cameroonian troops guarding the area in a gun fight. By a fateful coincidence, the number of soldiers was reduced because some of them have departed to the capital to participate in the National Day military parade.
The incident has happened just one day before the leaders of Nigeria, Benin, Cameroon, Niger and Chad declared a "total war" on Boko Haram during a security summit in Paris, hosted by the President of France, Francois Hollande.
