Driver Dies After Taking Selfie Behind The Wheel Before Crashing Into a Truck

A driver has died after apparently posting a selfie and Facebook update moments before she crashed her car head-on into a truck. Courtney Ann Sanford, 32, died in the North Carolina collision last week shortly after posting a status about how happy she was as she drove to work. In what seems to be a reference to Pharrell Williams’ recent hit song, she posted at 8.33am: “The happy song makes me HAPPY!” Police received a call about the crash at 8.34am, Lieutenant Chris Weisner told Fox 8 news. Looking back at Ms Sanford’s internet activity, they found she had also been posting selfies as she drove. Lt Weisner said: “In a matter of seconds, a life was over just so she could notify some friends that she was happy. “As sad as it is, it is a grim reminder for everyone… you just have to pay attention while you are in the car.” Ms Sanford’s death is the latest in a string of tragedies involving selfies in dangerous places. Russian teenager Xenia Ignatyeva died last week after falling as she tried to take a selfie on top of a railway bridge. And Canadian tourist Jared Frank had a lucky escape after trying to take a selfie just inches from a fast-moving train in Peru.
