Nigerian jailed for smuggling meth into UAE

A 33-year-old man was sentenced to seven years in jail after being convicted of smuggling more than four kilograms of Methamphetamine into the country. “I did not do it, I didn’t try to smuggle any drugs and I didn’t know it was there inside my bags,” said Nigerian AA, who has been in custody since November 29. He was fined Dh50,000 and will be deported after completing his jail term. Records show AA was arrested at Dubai International Airport after travelling from his home country. The 4kgs of drugs were found hidden inside his luggage. Court records said inspectors discovered three rolls of pink coloured paper in AA’s luggage. When they opened up the rolls they found eight small raps containing the drugs in the shape of crystals. At the Dubai Criminal Court last month AA denied a charge of smuggling for the purpose of selling and told the court he had been framed by his boss. “My manager stashed the drugs and I didn’t even know they were there. He sent me with some samples of our products to Dubai to meet with a businessman and show him the samples in order to start providing us with shipments, I didn’t know that there were drugs inside the tools,” said AA
