Woman Stops Alleged Bank Robber By Crashing Into Getaway Car
A 51-year-old cancer patient helped stop a fleeing bank robber by ramming her pickup truck into the suspect’s getaway car.
The parking lot collision — between Tina Gleim’s Chevy S-10 and alleged thief Alexis Laskowski’s SUV — badly damaged the front wheel of the suspect’s vehicle on Thursday morning.
Laskowski drove away from the PNC Bank in Warrington, Pa. but had to abandon the broken auto about a quarter-mile from the heist, according to Fox 43.
“I thought, ‘I can’t stop him any other way, I might as well hit him,’” Gleim said to the York Dispatch. She was outside the bank when a shaken-up teller told her that they had been robbed. “I saw an opportunity that I could stop a criminal from getting away with it.”
Gleim was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. She’s not planning on driving her 1995 Chevy pickup anymore, according to the York Daily Record.
Police arrested 38-year-old Laskowski soon afterward, according to WHTM.
State police credited Gleim with capturing Laskowski, but they also discouraged civilians from putting themselves in harm’s way, according to TV station WHP.
The suspect allegedly confessed to three other bank hold-ups in Pennsylvania in February and March, the York Dispatch reported.
Bail was set at $500,000 for Laskowski.
